Our Curriculum Vision for Art and Design
‘Art, craft and design embody some of the highest forms of human creativity. A high-quality art and design education should engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They should also know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation’.
Art and Design at Woodstone
At Woodstone we aim for children of all ages to communicate and experiment in a creative manner – art and design is a perfect way for children to do this. Children are also encouraged to express themselves through art and design as this helps to stimulate imagination and inventiveness. Art and Design gives our children a way of celebrating culture and diversity and therefore gives them a range of different perspectives. Children are given opportunities to develop their understanding of a range of artists and discuss how art and design has influenced our history. At Woodstone individuality within art and design is celebrated, through displays and topic books, and children also become more resilient and self-reflective as they engage in discussions and receive regular feedback.
What's new in Art and Design?
This year we have further developed our curriculum to strengthen the teaching of Art across the school. We have carefully planned a focus artist for each of the main disciplines which the children will study alongside the skills and techniques needed to master each discipline. The artists have been carefully selected to ensure they reflect artists from a diverse range of backgrounds, cultures, styles and periods giving children a broad understanding of the complexity and rich history of art
